Seven Lakes Senior Empowers Kids with Hands-On STEM and Arts Workshops

Feeding CreativitySeven Lakes High School senior Donya Adeli is helping Katy kids rediscover a love of learning. Inspired by students she tutored who often felt unmotivated in traditional classrooms, Donya leads Feeding Creativity, a nonprofit that cultivates curiosity through free STEM-based     workshops at local libraries. With the help of her team, she gives hundreds of children hands-on opportunities to explore science, art, and innovation. From earth sciences, kinematics, psychology, and more, these monthly workshops span a variety of intriguing topics for kids to explore their interests. In the Houston chapter, the team at Feeding Creativity hosts monthly educational craft workshops at local libraries, and they aim to inspire the younger generation through hands-on learning experiences. Groups of trained volunteers work one-on-one with the children and guide them to enhance their experience. Over the past two years, these free workshops alone have served more than 1,500 community members, providing an estimated $10,000 in free educational resources.   In addition to local workshops, Feeding Creativity has inspired other high school students to start chapters nationwide, such as in California and in Texas where volunteers organize local workshops and host fundraisers for communities in need. Additionally, free craft tutorials and educational articles that are created by volunteers are uploaded on their website at feedingcreativity.org for people to access creative projects from home. “I hope that through my team’s efforts in the organization, children discover their excitement and curiosity towards learning more about our world,” says Donya, emphasizing how many kids today feel restless at school sitting at a desk for hours. “ I believe that the approach we take towards teaching new things, whether it's through arts and crafts, labs, or real-world visualizations, plays a large role in children’s development of curiosity. And ultimately, curiosity is what drives self-motivated learning”. Feeding CreativityDonya credits much of the organization’s success to her dedicated officer team: Isabella Carnalla, Elisabeth Zoeller-McCarthy, Isabella Labay, Andrea Hernandez, and Eva Wei. “Their   leadership and commitment have been essential in creating the opportunities we share with the community,” she said.
