Houston Audubon Awarded Katy Area Wildlife Enthusiast and Nature Photographer Board’s Choice Award
The ceremony was held at the Land Sea & Sky retail store at 1925A Richmond Avenue, Houston and the winning entries will be on display in their space this year.
Below is the acceptance speech of Christa Denning, Katy Area Wildlife Enthusiast, Nature Photographer, and graphic artist.
"I would like to thank Houston Audubon for this opportunity.
I enjoy sharing the wonders of our natural world with our community. Through nature photography, I have found myself becoming more active in speaking out in ways that can help wildlife.
I thank my husband for joining me on nature adventures. One day on one of our outings we met a couple bird enthusiasts from McAllen, Texas. They were in George Bush Park hoping to see blue jays. I was confused that they were looking to find our area’s common loud and boisterous blue feathered friends. They then shared with me that blue jays are not on their area range map. It was on that day I learned to not take blue jays for granted.
I would also like to thank Houston Audubon for all their wonderful programs.
- I have painted pictures of a great horned owl at the Houston Audubon Raptor and Education Center
- I enjoyed listening to “Silent Hunters – All About Owls.” traveling presentation
- We enjoy birding the Edith L. Moore Sanctuary trails
- I enjoy reading amazing amount of bird information unique to our area through the Houston Audubon website.
The wonder of nature amazes me, and a photo never truly captures the true beauty of nature, but sometimes the results turn out spectacular."
