Commissioner Andy Meyers congratulates regional business leader’s appointment to Texas Transportation Commission

Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers is excited by Governor Abbott’s appointment of business leader Steven Alvis to the Texas Transportation Commission. “I could not be more pleased with Governor Abbott’s appointment of Steven Alvis,” Meyers said. “Steven is an excellent choice for the Texas Transportation Commission. He is a seasoned manager, very knowledgeable about transportation issues, and knows the transportation needs of our region.” The Commission governs the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and is responsible for policymaking regarding the state’s highway system, developing a statewide transportation plan, assisting the development of public transportation, and adopting rules for TxDOT’s operation. Alvis is very familiar with TxDOT issues. He works closely with the Texas Department of Transportation, serving on Lt. Governor Dan Patrick’s Transportation Advisory Board. The Lt. Governor also appointed him in 2018 to the Texas Facilities Commission. Alvis is the co-founder and managing partner of commercial real estate company NewQuest Properties, which develops and operates numerous shopping centers in Texas, including Fort Bend Town Center and The Shoppes at Fort Bend. Alvis earned a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and attended Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. His term on the Commission will expire on February 1, 2029.
