Cornyn: Prairie View A&M to Receive $700K Federal Grant to Recruit More Teachers and Support Schools

Prairie View A&M University has been awarded a $722,440 federal grant by the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) announced today. This award will help address school staffing shortages by giving Prairie View A&M funding to recruit, prepare, develop, and support a stronger and more effective teacher workforce.
“In order to better invest in Texas students, it’s critical we invest in our Texas teachers,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I applaud this announcement and look forward to seeing these resources enhance teacher development throughout the region for those helping to educate Texas’ next generation.”
Background:
The Teacher Quality Partnership grant program offered by the U.S. Department of Education is designed to improve student achievement by first improving the quality of prospective teachers. This program will help recruit highly qualified individuals, enhance professional development activities for new teachers, and hold preparation programs at institutions of higher education accountable for preparing teachers who meet state certification and licensure requirements.
