Harmony Science Academy – Houston Senior Earns Full Scholarship from U.S. Marines Corps

Physically fit, mentally tough, and a sound moral character… that’s what it takes to be an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. These three glowing qualities are what set apart Metin Akyildiz, a Harmony Science Academy – Houston senior, from the 4,000 applicants for a prestigious ROTC National Scholarship. There are 181,000 thousand Marines, but only 15% are made up of the Officer Corps. On Friday, May 14, 2021, Akyildiz was presented with a scholarship check for $180,000 which covers all college expenses including tuition, books, room and board, fees, and meals. In all, only 335 students around the country were awarded the ROTC National Scholarship with 12 students coming from the Houston area. Akyildiz will take his talents to Texas A&M University where he will be a member of the Corps of Cadets while pursuing a degree in Computer Science. He has pledged four years of service to the U.S. Marine Corps. Harmony Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year for both students and team members.
